Blackfriars: The Old Dominican Friary |
This 13th century friary complex is a unique survivor in England. The church and the covered cloister walkways were demolished after the dissolution in the 1530's. The remainder survived in use as workshops but became dilapidated and by the 1970's and was even threatened at this late stage by demolition. It was saved, restored and now houses a series of shops and cafe's. |

Two views of surviving sections of the ancient walls of the city, near to the friary complex. A new sculpture installation dominates the foreground (not to my taste) |
