Kirkby Stephen
A small market town in the western dales.
The large medieval church is sometimes referred to as the 'cathedral of the dales.'

Kirkby Lonsdale Another ancient market town passed on the route to Lancaster. A scenic river setting can be found on the edge of the town and an ancient church with 'transitional' Romanesque and early gothic architecture, near the centre. Below: the west door and the nave interior. |
