These five images show the exterior of the large stupa monument within the grounds, including an interior shot of the sculptures of the shrine contained within the base. A one storey structure sheltering rows of prayer wheels, now flanks the stupa on three sides and is approaching completion. |

More images of the great stupa and the flanking structure containing a series of massive prayer wheels. The stupa represents the Buddhist universe and serves as both a shrine and a house for the ashes of benefactors to the monastery. The highest spire of the stupa represents the mythical Mt Meru. The prayer wheels are large cylindrical brass drums, emblazoned with mantras and filled with large rolls of prayers which are believed to emanate heavenwards upon each revolution. |
